Despite major rescue operations, 89 people remain missing following the catastrophic floods that struck eastern and southern Spain, according to figures released on Tuesday.
A week after the historic floods ravaged the Valencia region, search operations continue in an effort to locate the missing, as reported by the Spanish news agency EFE, citing official sources.
The death toll has risen to 218, with 213 lives lost in Valencia, four in Castilla-La Mancha, and one in Andalusia. In the aftermath of the disaster, 186 individuals have been arrested for looting or theft, according to the Spanish National Police and Gendarmerie.
Nearly 15,000 military personnel and national police are actively involved in the search efforts, maintaining security, and working to restore basic services and sanitation in the affected areas.
In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced a substantial aid package on Tuesday aimed at supporting affected residents and businesses in their efforts to recover and adapt to the evolving climate.
