New Delhi: The Congress party has accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the BJP-RSS of fostering communal tensions following the recent violence in Sambhal, where three Muslim youth were killed in police firing during protests against a mosque survey.
In a statement, Congress leader Pawan Khera claimed the incident was a result of a “well-planned conspiracy” under CM Adityanath’s leadership.
“Western Uttar Pradesh, a region known for its goodwill and harmony, has now become a site of bloodshed under this administration,” said Khera.
The Congress alleged that the BJP government’s approach has disregarded communal harmony, with no action taken against rioters accompanying the survey team. Khera added that the state government was using violence and hatred as tools to divide communities for political gains.
The party also questioned the role of the police and administration, blaming them for the deaths of innocent civilians and injuries to over two dozen others. “Driving a wedge between communities is in the DNA of BJP-RSS,” Khera stated.
The Congress pointed to contradictions in BJP’s messaging, calling out slogans like “Ek Hai Toh SAFE Hai” and “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas” as hollow. “On one hand, they speak of unity, but on the other, they incite violence against minority communities,” said Khera.
Referencing RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s 2022 remarks discouraging communal tensions, the Congress asked if Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Adityanath would abide by such sentiments.
The party reiterated Rahul Gandhi’s message of “Nafrat Ke Bazaar Mein Mohabbat Ki Dukaan” (spreading love in the marketplace of hate) and urged the people of Sambhal to uphold unity, harmony, and their rights in a lawful manner.
The Congress also demanded accountability from the BJP government, accusing it of prioritising political ambitions over the nation’s communal harmony.
