Will ‘act with force’ against Houthis, says Israeli PM Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged a strong response against Yemen’s Houthi group following their missile attack on the Tel Aviv area.

In a video statement on Sunday, Netanyahu declared, “Just as we have forcefully dealt with Iran’s other allies, we will act against the Houthis.” He stressed that Israel was not acting in isolation, highlighting shared concerns with the United States and other nations over the Houthis’ threat to both international shipping and global stability.

“We will respond with strength, determination, and ingenuity,” Netanyahu stated, adding that while the process might take time, the outcome would align with Israel’s track record against terrorist groups.

His remarks followed a missile strike by the Iran-backed Houthis on Saturday, which exploded in a playground in southern Tel Aviv, injuring 16 people and causing significant damage after interception attempts failed, according to Xinhua news agency.

The missile hit a playground and a building, leaving people injured and structures damaged, as reported by Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue service.

This attack came on the heels of Israeli airstrikes on Thursday targeting Yemen’s capital Sanaa and key ports, which the Israeli military claimed were aimed at Houthi infrastructure. The strikes resulted in at least nine deaths.

The Saturday attack marked the second such incident in two days. On Thursday, a Houthi missile partially intercepted outside Israeli airspace crashed into an empty school building in Ramat Gan, causing extensive damage but no injuries.
