Sambhal: The court-appointed commissioner has announced that the survey report of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal Uttar Pradesh is nearly complete and will be submitted to the court in January 2025.
Advocate Ramesh Singh Raghav, serving as the court commissioner in the case, stated on December 23 that the report is expected to be filed on January 2 or 3.
“The survey report is in its final stages. Some technical adjustments will be made today, as this is the court’s last working day before it closes. The report will be submitted by January 2 or 3. The Supreme Court’s stay order prohibits the trial court from taking any action until January 6, so the report will be filed within this timeframe,” Raghav informed the media.
The survey was ordered ex-parte by the court on November 19, based on a plea from the Hindu side alleging that the mosque was constructed by Mughal emperor Babur in 1526 after demolishing a temple.
On November 24, during a second survey round, clashes erupted and police fired on Muslim protesters, killing five.
In response, the Supreme Court intervened on November 29, instructing the Sambhal trial court to pause proceedings related to the Mughal-era mosque and its survey while directing the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure peace and stability in the affected area.
