New Delhi: A 23-year-old recruiter, Tushar Singh Bisht, was arrested in East Delhi’s Shakarpur area on Friday for allegedly defrauding over 700 women on dating platforms. Bisht, a resident of Delhi, posed as a US-based model and used fake profiles to manipulate and extort his victims, police said.
Employed as a technical recruiter in Noida, Bisht used his fabricated persona on dating apps like Bumble and Snapchat to lure women aged 18-30. He convinced them to share intimate photos and videos, which he later used for blackmail, threatening to leak the content online or sell it on the dark web if they didn’t pay.
The investigation began when a second-year Delhi University student filed a complaint on December 13, 2024. She alleged that Bisht, whom she met on Bumble, extorted her using her private videos. This prompted the Cyber Police Station in West Delhi to launch an inquiry, leading to Bisht’s arrest.
Police recovered incriminating evidence, including intimate visuals, fake virtual numbers, and chat records with over 60 women. Bisht had used these platforms for personal gratification initially, which later turned into a systematic extortion racket.
The police also found two bank accounts linked to the accused, showing transactions made by victims. Investigations revealed that Bisht had extorted at least four other women apart from the complainant, with further probes underway.
While Bisht held a stable job and a BBA degree, greed and a lust for women drove him into cybercrime, police said. His arrest brings attention to the rising misuse of dating platforms for fraudulent activities.
