Baramulla: A man pretending to be a doctor was apprehended by locals near Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla on Tuesday and subsequently turned over to the police, various reports said.
The impostor, who falsely claimed to be a doctor from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, was caught while attempting to deceive people and pharmacists.
According to reports, the fraudulent person initially approached a pharmacy in Baramulla’s main town near the old district hospital. Introducing himself as a “cardiologist from AIIMS,” he allegedly requested money from the pharmacist under the pretence of needing it for car fuel. In return, he offered his services as a cardiologist at the pharmacy. However, the pharmacist became suspicious and refused to provide any money.
The man then visited a shopping complex outside GMC Baramulla, seeking space to establish a private clinic as a cardiologist. However, his suspicious behaviour raised concerns among local pharmacists.
Later, it was discovered that the man carried a counterfeit identity card identifying him as Dr Abdul Razak Khan, son of Ali Mohammad Khan, with a residential address in Tankipora near the DC Office in Srinagar.
The falsified card claimed affiliation with the Department of Medicine HIV/AIDS at AIIMS, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi, and included contact numbers.
