Poonch: Armed forces of both India and Pakistan exchange gunfire on Wednesday along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, officials told PTI.

As per Indian officials, the  extent of damage on the Pakistani side remains unclear, but claimed the enemy suffered ‘heavy casualties’, the news agency reported.

The report said ceasefire violation from Pakistan in the Krishna Ghati sector occurred a day after an IED explosion near the LoC in Akhnoor killed two Indian Army personnel, including a captain.

Such violations have been rare since India and Pakistan reaffirmed their ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021.

Meanwhile, a junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the Indian Army sustained minor injuries after accidentally stepping on a landmine while patrolling the LoC. He was evacuated to a military hospital for treatment, the newsd agency report said.

Tensions have escalated along the LoC in recent days, with increased hostilities from across the border. This marked the first ceasefire violation of the year and the fourth cross-border incident in five days.

On Monday, an Indian armed forces personnel was hit by a bullet from across the border while stationed at a forward post in Rajouri’s Nowshera sector. Earlier, on February 8, an Army patrol came under militant fire in Rajouri’s Keri sector, indicating an apparent infiltration attempt.

On February 10, Lieutenant General Navin Sachdeva, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Knight Corps, assessed the growing hostilities along the LoC in Rajouri.

The army stated that senior commanders visited forward positions for an operational update on the security situation. The corps commander praised troops for their vigilance and urged them to stay prepared for any contingencies.
