Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir has installed 2,772 rooftop solar plants under the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, generating 10.38 MW. Of these, 2,489 are operational, with Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) commissioning 1,389 and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) activating 1,100.
JPDCL received 19,076 applications (66.77 MW), while KPDCL recorded 17,746 (56.787 MW). So far, 14,961 applicants have chosen vendors, and subsidies have been disbursed to 1,144 consumers—294 in JPDCL areas and 850 in KPDCL areas, said an official statement.
JPDCL Managing Director Choudhary Yasin reported that 1,438 consumers received zero electricity bills. On average, 47 systems are installed daily, with 54 commissioned per day. Budgam leads in Kashmir with 16.07% progress, while Kishtwar has the most installations in Jammu at 88.
Financially, JPDCL has disbursed ₹2,654.38 lakh across Jammu districts (Oct 31, 2024–Mar 21, 2025), while KPDCL has released ₹1,847.19 lakh in Kashmir (by Mar 10, 2025).
The scheme is also solarising government buildings. Of 22,494 proposed buildings, 12,994 are being addressed under the Capex model, with 4,673 completed (39.6 MW). Another 9,500 are targeted under the RESCO model (200 MW). NHPC is handling 35 MW across 1,500 buildings, while JAKEDA oversees 175 MW for 8,000 buildings.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo urged power companies to assist consumers, publicise success stories, and reduce delays. Plans are also underway to create Model Solar Villages, ensuring 24×7 renewable energy for homes, water systems, and agriculture
