New Delhi: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will chair a series of high-level meetings on Wednesday to assess the country’s security posture in the aftermath of last week’s Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), India’s apex body for national security decisions, is set to convene at 11am. This will be the second such meeting since the deadly attack. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening security measures across the country.
Following the CCS meeting, the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), also led by Modi, will meet. Key GoI Ministers including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, JP Nadda, and Nirmala Sitharaman are among the CCPA members.
Subsequent meetings of the Cabinet’s Economic Affairs Committee and the full Cabinet are also scheduled.
At its last session on Thursday, the CCS reviewed the national security situation and raised alert levels. In a strong diplomatic response to Pakistan’s alleged involvement in the Pahalgam attack, the government suspended the Indus Water Treaty, halted SAARC visas, closed the Wagah-Attari border, and downgraded diplomatic relations.
Additionally, Pakistan nationals residing in India were instructed to return by Sunday, with a Tuesday deadline for those on medical visas. Pakistan retaliated by suspending all bilateral agreements with India, including the Simla Accord.
