Border Security Force (BSF) personnel Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been held in Pakistani custody since April 23, was formally handed over to Indian authorities at the Joint Check Post in Attari, Amritsar, around 10:30am today.

The exchange took place smoothly, adhering to diplomatic procedures between India and Pakistan.

Shaw had reportedly crossed the international border near Firozpur, leading to his detention by the Pakistan Rangers. His return comes after successful negotiations between officials from both countries.

In recent weeks, efforts to bring Shaw back intensified, with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee assuring his family that high-level action was underway. His wife, Rajni Shaw, actively campaigned for his return, appealing to authorities for swift intervention.

The BSF has stated that Shaw will first undergo standard medical checks and a debriefing before being reunited with his family. His safe return brings relief to his loved ones and those who closely followed the case.
