Srinagar sizzles at 34.2°c as heatwave grips Kashmir, Jammu regions

Srinagar: The Kashmir and Jammu regions continued to sizzle under an intense heatwave, with several areas recording maximum temperatures significantly above normal on Wednesday.

According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, Srinagar touched 34.2°C, which is 6.2°C above the normal for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded 33.9°C—7.2°C above normal—while Kokernag and Pahalgam weren’t far behind at 33.2°C and 29.0°C, respectively.

Even the usually cooler tourist spot of Gulmarg reported a high of 24.8°C, which is 6.0°C above the average.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city sweltered at 43.6°C, 4.8°C above normal. Katra recorded 39.5°, Banihal 33.8°C, and Bhaderwah 34.0°C, indicating widespread heat stress across the region.

Meanwhile, in Ladakh, Leh and Kargil remained relatively milder with maximum temperatures of 26.2°C and 26.8°C, respectively.

The persistent rise in mercury has raised concerns over water availability, health impacts, and agricultural stress in the coming days.
