On Friday, Israel confirmed it had launched strikes against Iran, while Iranian media reported hearing explosions in Tehran amid escalating tensions linked to US efforts to persuade Iran to stop producing materials that could be used for nuclear weapons.
In response, Israel declared a state of emergency, anticipating potential missile and drone attacks from Iran.
An Israeli military source told The Hindu that the country was targeting “dozens” of Iran’s nuclear and military facilities, warning that Iran could potentially produce up to 15 nuclear bombs within days.
The report quoting two American officials said US had no role in the Israeli operation. However, US media noted that President Donald Trump had called a cabinet meeting.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state television reported multiple explosions in Tehran and said the country’s air defense systems were on high alert.
A day earlier, on June 12, President Trump said an Israeli strike on Iran was a real possibility but expressed his continued hope for a peaceful solution.
