New Delhi: A special flight carrying 100 Indian students — including 90 from Jammu and Kashmir — landed in Delhi this morning after being evacuated from Iran, which has been reeling under a severe wave of unrest and instability due to war with Israel.
Following their arrival, the students raised concerns about the condition of the buses arranged to ferry them from Delhi to Kashmir.
Responding swiftly, the Chief Minister took cognisance of their grievance and directed the Resident Commissioner to coordinate with the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) to ensure proper deluxe buses are provided.
The evacuation was part of the Indian government’s ongoing efforts to bring back nationals stranded abroad amid deteriorating security and political situations in some parts of the world.
Iran, in particular, has seen heightened tensions, prompting many countries to begin phased evacuation of their citizens.
The students, who were mostly pursuing higher education in Iranian universities, expressed relief upon returning to India but urged authorities to ensure safe and dignified arrangements for their travel back home.
Officials said the matter is being addressed on priority and efforts are underway to facilitate a smooth transit to Jammu and Kashmir.
