Iran-Israel war: After 10-hour wait, buses arrive to transport evacuated Kashmiri students from Delhi

The evacuation came amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.

New Delhi: After a delay of nearly 10 hours, sleeper deluxe buses finally arrived in Delhi late Wednesday night to ferry 90 Kashmiri students — recently evacuated from Iran — back to the Valley,  Jammu and Kashmir Students Association said on Thursday afternoon.

The students, part of a group of 100 Indian nationals brought home from Iran earlier in the day, had raised concerns about the condition and delay of transport arrangements following their arrival in Delhi.

The evacuation came amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, prompting India to begin phased repatriation of its citizens from the region.

Soon after the students voiced their concerns, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister took cognisance of the matter and directed the Resident Commissioner to coordinate with JKRTC for proper transportation. Officials said deluxe sleeper buses were arranged promptly thereafter to ensure the students’ safe return.

Most of the evacuees were pursuing higher education in Iran and expressed relief at being back in India. However, they also stressed the importance of dignified and timely arrangements during such critical transitions.

Authorities said the matter was being handled on priority and that all students would be transported safely to their respective districts in Jammu and Kashmir.
