New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday barred Patanjali from airing advertisements that allegedly disparage Dabur Chyawanprash.
Justice Mini Pushkarna granted an interim injunction in response to a petition by Dabur, which accused Patanjali of targeting its product—Dabur Chyawanprash—in advertisements for “Patanjali Special Chyawanprash.”
According to Dabur, the ads not only undermined their brand specifically but also discredited Chyawanprash as a whole by claiming that no other company possesses the knowledge to produce it, amounting to general disparagement.
The petition also stated that the ads contained false and misleading claims, including unfair comparisons with Dabur’s product, despite both being Ayurvedic medicines.
Representing Dabur were advocates Jawahar Lala and Meghna Kumar.
The plea further alleged that Patanjali’s ads described other Chyawanprash products as “ordinary,” implying they were of lesser quality, and falsely claimed that other manufacturers lacked knowledge of Ayurvedic scriptures and formulations used in making Chyawanprash.
The court scheduled the next hearing for July 14.
