Srinagar: Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Friday chaired a high-level meeting on the post-flood scenario in Kashmir and directed reinforcement of vulnerable spots, evacuation of people from inundated villages, round-the-clock monitoring through control rooms, and frequent visits to affected areas.
He instructed the administration to issue timely advisories urging residents to stay alert, avoid panic, and cooperate with officials engaged in relief work.
The Chief Minister said priority must be given to resuming essential services, including power, water supply, and road connectivity in the affected regions.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister visited flood-hit areas of Budgam and the outskirts of Srinagar, reaching interior localities by boat to personally assess the situation. He directed officials to ensure the evacuation of families from inundated pockets and to provide temporary shelters with adequate supplies, including safe drinking water.
The Deputy Chief Minister, Advisor to the Chief Minister, and several concerned MLAs accompanied him during the visit. The Chief Minister also appealed to residents of adjoining areas to follow advisories and extend full cooperation to the administration in managing the crisis.
