Kashmir shivers as temperatures plunge; Srinagar records minus 4.4°C

Srinagar: Major parts of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh reeled under severe cold on Sunday as minimum temperatures dipped well below freezing across the regions, with the higher reaches witnessing intense subzero conditions.

Srinagar recorded a low of minus 4.4°C, while several south and north Kashmir stations slipped further. Pampore, Anantnag and Baramulla logged some of the coldest readings at minus 6.0°C, minus 6.0°C and minus 6.4°C, respectively. Shopian remained the coldest in the Valley at minus 6.6°C. The gateway to Ladakh, Zojila Pass, plunged to minus 15.0°C.

In central and north Kashmir, Budgam touched minus 5.1°C, Bandipora minus 5.0°C, and Ganderbal minus 3.9°C. Qazigund settled at minus 3.0°C and Pahalgam at minus 5.6°C. Pulwama and Kulgam data were unavailable.

In the Jammu division, temperatures stayed above freezing in most places, though Banihal recorded minus 0.7°C and Bhaderwah 0.3°C. Jammu city settled at 8.8°C, while Katra and Kathua recorded 9.0°C and 7.4°C. Udhampur dipped to 3.0°C and Rajouri to 1.5°C.

Ladakh continued to face harsh conditions, with Nyoma dropping to minus 16.3°C. Upshi recorded minus 12.8°C, Tangste minus 12.7°C, Padum minus 12.6°C and Drass minus 12.4°C. Leh settled at minus 9.2°C and Kargil at minus 8.5°C.
