New Delhi: The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Monday summoned Wikipedia executives in India to seek an explanation on how Indian cricket team bowler Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page entry was changed to reflect ‘Khalistan’ association.

Wikipedia executives may be questioned regarding the lapses and the measures in place to avoid such issues. The ministry is likely to issue a show cause notice to the Wikipedia executives, reported Economic Times.

Pertinently on Sunday, Singh dropped a catch of Pakistan batter Asif Ali during the 18th over of their Asia Cup 2022 match following which he became the target of online trolls.

Arshdeep bowled the final over with seven runs required and Pakistan won with two balls remaining. The win was set up by Mohammad Rizwan and the hard-hitting Mohammad Nawaz who took on the Indian bowling in the middle overs.

Following this, the page entry read that Singh had been selected to play for the ‘Khalistani’ national cricket team. However, the information was later removed from his page.

Arshdeep bore the brunt of Indians when many blamed him for the loss and even went on to abuse him and his family on various social media platforms. Many Twitter users also called the cricketer a ‘Khalistani.
