Yemen’s Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi has declared that the group will “inevitably” launch a military response to Israel’s recent actions, international media rpeorted.
“The ‘axis of resistance’ stance is clear: there must be a military reaction to Israeli violations,” al-Houthi stated in a televised address on Thursday, as reported by IANS.
He condemned the killing of Hamas Politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh as “a blatant violation of international norms” and “a brazen crime that highlights Israel’s disregard for human rights,” reported Xinhua news agency.
Al-Houthi also criticised the Israeli airstrike in Beirut, which killed senior Hezbollah commander Fouad Shokor, calling it a “dangerous escalation.”
The Houthi group, which controls large parts of northern Yemen, is part of the anti-Israel “axis of resistance,” including Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, and militant groups in Iraq.
Since last November, the Houthis have targeted ships linked to Israel in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden with ballistic missiles and bomb-laden drones to show solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
Haniyeh, who was in Tehran for the inauguration of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, was killed alongside his bodyguard early Wednesday in a targeted strike. Iran has accused Israel of the assassination, though Israel has not confirmed its involvement.
