Srinagar: In response to the chaos on the opening day of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, PDP Leader Waheed Parra clarified that the proposed resolution was not a political maneuver or opposition ploy, but a call to “restore” the dignity and identity of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We seek the original spirit of Article 370’s restoration,” stated the Pulwama MLA, adding that this aligns with the legacy of National Conference (NC) founder Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and the foundational principles of the state.
Addressing criticisms, Parra urged unanimous acceptance of the resolution, emphasising that “it represents the will and sentiments” of the Kashmiri people.
The PDP leader appealed for cross-party unity in supporting the resolution. He expressed disappointment that, although many leaders had promised it, statehood restoration was prioritised over Article 370. “The first resolution should have focused on Article 370, as (CM) Omar Abdullah pledged during his campaign,” he noted.
Parra encouraged legislators to place Article 370’s restoration above immediate issues like water, electricity, and infrastructure, stating, “These essential needs can wait if we achieve unity on restoring Article 370.”
The PDP MLA reaffirmed his party’s commitment to stable governance and expressed hope that the Abdullah-led administration would fulfill its promises.
