Pahalgam Attack: India briefs diplomats of several countries including US, UK, Russia, China

Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

New Delhi: India on Thursday briefed senior diplomats from the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Italy, Qatar, Japan, China, Russia, Germany, France and other missions on attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

The heads of mission were called to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for a closed meeting led by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, ANI reported.

The briefing followed measures announced on Wednesday by Indian authorities.

Those are: Suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty “until Pakistan ends support for cross‑border terrorism.”

Reduction of diplomatic staff in the Indian and Pakistani high commissions from 55 to 30 and recall or expulsion of defence advisers.

Closure of the Attari Integrated Check Post, with departures permitted until 1 May for travellers who previously entered there.

Cancellation of SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme privileges for Pakistani nationals.

Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz has said that treating the Indus Waters Treaty as suspended “can be taken as an act of war.” Islamabad has termed India’s steps “inappropriate”; it has not yet responded to the latest diplomatic briefing.

The Pahalgam attack on April 22 left 26 civilians dead—26 Indians and one Nepali—according to authorities.
