Iran sharply criticised former US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a supposed deal, urging him not to portray a setback as a success.
An Iranian military spokesperson said the United States’ so-called strategic strength has now become a clear failure, adding that Washington appeared to be negotiating only with itself.
In a prerecorded message aired on state television, Lt Col Ebrahim Zolfaghari of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters mocked the US, saying that a country claiming global superpower status would have already resolved the situation if it were capable.
He warned against disguising defeat as diplomacy and declared that the era of empty promises was over.
Zolfaghari questioned whether internal divisions in the US had become so severe that it was effectively holding talks with itself. His remarks followed reports that the Trump administration had sent a 15-point ceasefire proposal to Iran via Pakistan.
Reaffirming Iran’s stance, he said Tehran’s position has remained unchanged from the beginning and would not shift, stressing that Iran would never reach an agreement under such conditions.
He added that regional stability, in Iran’s view, depends on the strength of its armed forces and insisted that circumstances would only return to normal when threats against Iran ceased entirely.
Pakistani officials confirmed that Iran had received the US proposal, which reportedly includes provisions related to sanctions relief, civilian nuclear cooperation, scaling back Iran’s nuclear programme, oversight by the International Atomic Energy Agency, limits on missile activity, and ensuring shipping access through the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, oil prices dropped significantly amid signs of possible negotiations, reflecting a bearish sentiment in global energy markets due to shifting geopolitical dynamics.
Elsewhere, violence continued in the region. Two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli drone strike in central Gaza, while a separate drone attack caused a fire at Kuwait International Airport, though no casualties were reported.
